Fridays @ 4 Format Meeting

Below is the summary of the conclusions made at the meeting this afternoon. Please add anything I've forgotten.

Journal Club

Format will stay the same as last Spring.

This will include:

• presentations by one person, continuing to include lots of background
  
• the same paper rules: picked one month ahead of time with a faculty mentor and sent out one week early via Erin [etrail(at)bu(dot)edu]
• presenter should include discussion questions and/or a summary paragraph to be sent out with the paper to encourage people to focus their thoughts
• this spiffy little blog to foster discussion and let people ask their (dumb) questions before the actual gathering

RIP

These will change a little bit.

• either one or two people will present their current data
• the presenter should be interested in the advice/feedback of the audience
  examples include: graduate students trying to figure out what data to put in a paper, postdocs looking to figure out how to go about solving a newly-identified project and, most importantly, anyone needing advice on how to interprete data or troubleshoot a protocol.
• the presentation should take up less than half of the scheduled time to allow for plenty of discussion
